#27 Intro
Have you ever met someone who couldn’t handle power? Perhaps a coach who pushed people too hard, a manager at work, or even a two-faced babysitter. Chances are, you know a few people that fit that description. Some people just feel the need to have control over others. However, once they obtain the power that they sought, they don’t know the proper way to use it. The theme of power is very common in Star Trek: The Original Series. In most episodes, there is someone who has a some sort of supernatural power. The writer uses these supernatural powers to represent an exaggerated form of power in real life. Celebrities, politicians and athletes in the world can gain near-superhuman power. Sure they can’t fly or turn invisible, but they have a great deal of influence on people and can be very good at controlling people. When you start to think about what these kinds of people can do, superpowers don’t actually seem that crazy of an idea.

Although this sounds great and flowy, you might want to consider a thesis sentence that's more straightforward at the end of your paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI really like the paragraph in general though. I'm actually invested and interested to see how you'll connect social and supernatural powers.
This is an interesting argument- the idea that influence and personal charisma can be as powerful or more as physical strength or useful abilities. Maybe you could even say that the personal characteristics of superheroes are as important or more than their powers (if your paper is about superheroes).
ReplyDeleteI like how you connected with the audience and made us think about our own experiences so we could relate.
ReplyDeleteAbout your comment on my first blog, I am not sure what I would like to do when I graduate. I think working for the EPA would be an interesting career. I agree that many people abuse power, it seems to be a quality of people in general. By the way, what do you think about the recent comments on espn stating that Jim Tressel should be fired?
